The Philippines’ pineapple industry is experiencing remarkable growth, with exports significantly expanding, particularly in its largest market—China. In 2023, the country exported an impressive 200,000 tons of pineapples to China, dominating the Chinese pineapple import market. This growth comes as a result of strong government policies that support the industry and boost its export potential.
The total export value of Philippine pineapples reached USD 255 million in 2023, and with demand on the rise, the export value for the first half of 2024 approached USD 193 million. This trend is expected to continue as global demand for pineapples and other healthy foods continues to increase.
China remains the largest export market for Philippine pineapples, accounting for more than 40% of the total export value. Other important markets include Japan, South Korea, the UAE, Sudan, and New Zealand. Notable companies importing Philippine pineapples include Itochu Corporation, Dole (Shanghai) Fruits and Vegetables Trading, and Lion King Supply Chain Management.
Local pineapple growers in the Philippines are the primary exporters, though some foreign distributors also operate in the country. Leading exporters include PHILPACK, Dole Philippines, and Mt. Kitanglad Agri-Development.
Given the country’s unique geographical advantages, lower cultivation costs, and growing global interest in healthy products, the Philippines’ pineapple exports are poised for continued success and expansion in the coming years.
