Egypt continues to demonstrate its strength in international trade, achieving a new milestone with record potato exports to the United Kingdom in 2024. Building on an impressive performance in 2023, Egypt increased its export volume by 2.7 times, delivering 23.7 thousand tons of potatoes and generating $13.5 million in revenue.
The export season, which ran from February to August, saw its peak in June, underscoring Egypt’s ability to consistently meet market demands. With this achievement, Egypt is on track to potentially rank among the top three potato suppliers to the UK, showcasing its expanding role in global trade networks.
Egypt now holds 15.7% of the UK’s potato import market for the first 11 months of 2024, a significant leap from 10.8% in 2023 and just 1.2% in 2022. This rapid growth highlights the country’s dedication to enhancing trade relations and leveraging its agricultural strengths to meet international needs.
The global demand for potatoes has shifted market dynamics, with Egypt emerging as a key player alongside other leading exporters. Potatoes have consistently ranked as Egypt’s third most valuable agricultural export, following oranges and grapes, underscoring the sector’s critical role in driving the country’s trade success.
This accomplishment not only strengthens Egypt’s position in the global agricultural trade market but also reinforces the importance of collaboration and innovation in maintaining robust supply chains.
