Egypt’s food export and import sectors are seeing impressive growth, with a recent surge in shipments reflecting the country’s growing influence in global trade. The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported a remarkable 6,200 food export shipments between January 18 and 24, totaling 230,000 tons, marking a 33,000-ton increase from the previous week.
This increase is a result of diverse agricultural exports, including vegetables, fruits, and other food products, with 1,685 companies participating in the trade. Leading the way in vegetable exports were beans, sweet potatoes, and mixed frozen vegetables, with 12,000 tons, 10,000 tons, and 8,000 tons, respectively. In total, Egypt exported 63,000 tons of vegetables, spanning 67 varieties.
Citrus fruits continued to dominate the fruit export market, with 72,000 tons shipped globally, followed by strawberries and dates at 10,000 tons and 3,000 tons, respectively. This brings the total fruit exports to 90,000 tons, covering 40 different varieties.
These products are reaching markets in 186 countries, with key destinations including Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, and Turkey. Egypt’s Suez Port led export logistics with 1,131 shipments, while Cairo Airport Port and Alexandria Port followed with 1,100 and 825 shipments, respectively.
In addition to its export achievements, Egypt has introduced a new export certification system, with 505 health certificates issued to ensure the quality and safety of food products.
On the import side, Alexandria Port has seen increased activity, processing 787 shipments, followed by Cairo Airport Port with 350 shipments and Damietta Port with 278 shipments.
Egypt’s continued growth in both food exports and imports highlights the strength of its agricultural sector and trade infrastructure. The country’s diversified offerings and efficient logistics systems are key to boosting its position in international markets and driving economic growth through enhanced trade relationships.
