Chilean grape exports are gearing up for a successful season, with the Chilean Table Grape Committee forecasting an impressive export crop of 66 million cartons for the 2024/25 season, reflecting a 2.4% increase compared to the previous year. This growth showcases the resilience and adaptability of Chile’s agricultural sector, with estimates based on approximately 85% of the country’s total shipment volume.

Ignacio Caballero, the committee’s executive director, is optimistic about the continuous growth in table grape shipments. “For the second consecutive season, we expect our table grape exports to flourish, solidifying our reputation as an industry recognized for its exceptional quality and diverse grape varieties,” he stated.

A driving force behind this positive trend is the introduction of new grape varieties, which are anticipated to comprise 65% of exports this season, amounting to around 42.9 million cartons. Caballero emphasized that these innovative varieties are increasingly appealing to international markets due to their enhanced flavor, firmness, and crunchy texture—qualities that consumers highly value.

The United States will continue to be the primary market for Chilean table grapes, receiving nearly 60% of total shipments. Other significant markets include Asia at 16%, Europe at 14%, and various other regions at 10%. This season marks a pivotal development, as Chilean grapes can now be exported to the U.S. under the Systems Approach protocol, allowing for shipment without fumigation from the Tarapacá, Coquimbo, and Valparaíso regions. To further capitalize on this opportunity, Frutas de Chile is launching a special promotional campaign in the U.S. aimed at increasing consumption.

Caballero expressed excitement about the new season, stating, “The Systems Approach protocol opens up fantastic opportunities in our most important market. It will enhance the quality of our shipments and provide vital support to our local producers.” The committee is also advancing plans to implement the Systems Approach for exports to Mexico, further broadening Chile’s trade horizons.

This positive momentum not only reflects Chile’s commitment to innovation and quality but also highlights the country’s strategic position in the global grape market, paving the way for continued growth and success in international trade.
