In an interesting turn of events, Brazil’s fruit export market is showcasing resilience and adaptability as it navigates challenges within the grape sector. While grape exports have experienced a notable decline in 2024, other fruits, particularly mangoes and limes, are thriving and driving positive trade developments.

Recent data from AgroStat/Mapa, analyzed by Abrafrutas, reveals that grape exports faced a significant decline, with values dropping by 48.79% and volumes down by 54.32%. Specifically, exports fell from 20,000 tonnes valued at R$53.5 million in 2023 to 9,000 tonnes, valued at R$27.3 million in 2024. The adverse weather conditions, particularly excessive rainfall, have impacted grape availability.

However, this decline in grapes presents a unique opportunity for Brazil to focus on its other flourishing fruit exports. Overall, Brazil’s fruit export value has impressively increased by 8.51% from January to September 2024 compared to the same period last year. This uptick in value underscores the country’s capacity to adapt and capitalize on evolving market demands.

Mangoes have emerged as a standout success story, with export values surging by 46.19% despite a slight volume decrease of 0.16%. This remarkable growth is a testament to the rising international demand for Brazilian mangoes, supported by an increase in global prices that has more than compensated for any volume fluctuations.

Lime and lemon exports have also experienced significant growth, with a 14.52% increase in value and a 9.16% rise in volume. This surge highlights strong market acceptance and a growing appetite for Brazilian citrus fruits in international markets.

As Brazil shifts its focus toward the successes of mangoes and limes, the country is well-positioned to strengthen its trade relationships and enhance its reputation as a leading exporter of diverse fruit offerings. By embracing this adaptability, Brazil is paving the way for continued growth and success in the global fruit trade landscape.
