The Philippines and South Korea have taken a significant step to enhance their agricultural trade partnership with the ratification of a free trade agreement (FTA). This agreement is expected to open new opportunities for the export of Philippine tropical fruits to South Korea, complementing the existing trade in vegetables and other agricultural products.
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. shared his optimism about the agreement during the inauguration of the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture Greenhouse and Postharvest Facilities in Lucban, Quezon. He highlighted how this milestone will help diversify and increase the presence of Philippine agricultural products in South Korean markets.
Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture, South Korea’s leading agricultural research and development initiative, plays a pivotal role in enhancing productivity and sustainability in the Philippines. Through advanced greenhouse systems and cutting-edge agricultural technologies, Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture aims to support Filipino farmers in meeting global demand. Additionally, the Philippine government is investing in seed production facilities through partnerships with educational and government institutions, ensuring consistent and high-quality output for both local and international markets.
This strengthened collaboration underscores the long-standing relationship between the two nations, which has flourished over 75 years. By fostering innovation and cooperation, the Philippines and South Korea are not only expanding their trade footprint but also building a foundation for shared economic growth and agricultural excellence.
