Peru is on track to become a significant player in global trade with its rapidly growing dragon fruit industry, projected to reach $15 million in exports over the next three to four years. Known for its unique flavor and versatility, dragon fruit is capturing international attention as demand continues to rise.

German Caballero, a founding partner of Epic Farms, a Peruvian organic dragon fruit producer, expressed optimism about the market’s growth. “Demand for dragon fruit is expanding globally, with the market valued at $14.73 billion in 2024 and expected to grow to $18.27 billion by 2029,” he shared. This trend presents exciting opportunities for Peruvian producers to meet growing consumer interest in unique, nutrient-rich fruits.

In the first half of 2024 alone, Peru exported 406 tons of dragon fruit, valued at $1.3 million. With ongoing investments in organic farming, Peru is well-positioned to supply global markets with high-quality, exotic fruits.

This growth highlights Peru’s potential to strengthen its role in international trade and expand its economic impact. Caballero also noted that Peruvian papaya exports show similar promise, further broadening the country’s agricultural trade prospects.

As demand for fresh, nutritious produce continues to grow, Peru’s dragon fruit industry is poised to make a significant contribution to trade, creating new opportunities for local producers and boosting the nation’s economic standing.
