Vietnam’s tuna industry is achieving significant trade success as it deepens its presence in the Egyptian market—one of the Middle East’s most promising destinations for seafood exports. According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), tuna exports to Egypt surged to nearly USD 4 million in the first four months of 2025, marking an impressive 72% year-on-year growth.
This positive trend is led by canned tuna, which accounts for more than 82% of Vietnam’s tuna exports to Egypt. The remainder includes frozen tuna loins and processed tuna products. As Egyptian importers seek to diversify their supply chains, Vietnam is becoming a key trade partner offering both reliability and high-quality products.
Egypt’s recent recovery from a foreign currency shortage has revitalized its import sector, opening new avenues for Vietnamese exporters. This growth aligns well with broader efforts to expand Vietnam’s market reach beyond traditional destinations, particularly at a time when some Western markets remain uncertain.
As the second-largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of USD 347.59 billion and a top recipient of foreign direct investment, Egypt serves as a vital trade hub. In 2023, bilateral trade between the two nations reached USD 486.6 million, with Vietnam exporting primarily agro-fishery and textile products. Ongoing talks between the two governments in early 2025 aim to further ease market access and build sustainable trade frameworks.
While competition in Egypt is increasing as more countries enter the market, Vietnamese firms are encouraged to continue innovating and strengthening their export strategies. With strong demand, favorable trade conditions, and strategic government support, Vietnam’s tuna sector is well-positioned to thrive in this expanding market.
