Vietnam’s coffee export sector has started 2025 with impressive momentum, as the country exported 154,635 tonnes of coffee in January, generating a substantial $799.5 million in revenue. This performance highlights the country’s growing role as a key player in global trade, further solidifying its position in the international coffee market.
Green coffee exports, which totaled 137,568 tonnes, accounted for the majority of the trade value, bringing in $694.9 million. While the volume saw a 38.2% decline compared to January 2024, the value of these exports grew by 8.8%, demonstrating Vietnam’s ability to command higher prices in the global market. Additionally, processed coffee exports reached 17,067 tonnes, contributing $104.6 million to the total revenue.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises have been instrumental in the trade’s success, contributing 21.8% of the total green coffee export volume and 22.4% of the export value in January. The collaboration between domestic and foreign investors has played a key role in enhancing Vietnam’s competitive edge in global markets.
In 2024, Vietnam broke records with nearly 1.35 million tonnes of coffee exports, generating $5.62 billion in revenue. The average export price of coffee hit a historic high of $4,178 per tonne, with prices peaking at $5,855 per tonne in November. As a result, domestic raw coffee prices also saw a rise, providing farmers with net profits exceeding VNĐ90,000 per kilogram.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has set a target of 1.98 million tonnes of coffee production, which is expected to further boost trade. Global coffee consumption is projected to rise, and Vietnam’s coffee exports are forecasted to increase by 1.8 million bags, reaching 24.4 million bags for the 2024–2025 season.
This positive trend underlines Vietnam’s growing prominence in the global coffee trade, driven by high-quality production, strong export growth, and successful trade partnerships.
