Vietnam’s coconut industry is experiencing remarkable growth as strong international demand and expanding market access drive increased exports. With rising global interest, particularly from key markets in Asia and North America, coconut prices have seen a significant increase, benefiting local producers and strengthening Vietnam’s position in the global trade network.
In Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces, coconut consumption has risen with the warm season, leading to higher retail prices. Specialty coconut varieties, which were priced at around $0.40 per fruit in mid-2024, have now doubled in value, reflecting the growing demand. Fresh coconut prices have surged by 110% year-over-year, while dried coconut prices have seen a 150% increase.
Exporters are actively shipping large volumes of coconuts each month, responding to the growing appetite from international buyers. With expanded market access, including increased shipments to major economies, Vietnam’s coconut sector is poised for sustained growth.
In Ben Tre Province, where coconut farming is a major industry, authorities are working to enhance sustainable production. Efforts include expanding green coconut cultivation and improving supply chain efficiency. The province has established over 133 coded coconut-growing areas and 14 coded packaging facilities to meet export requirements. With nearly 80,000 hectares dedicated to coconut farming and an annual yield of 700,000 tons, Vietnam continues to strengthen its role as a leading supplier in the global coconut trade.
