In a continued push to strengthen transatlantic trade ties, UK Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds is set to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Paris this week to discuss the next steps in implementing a bilateral tariff agreement aimed at enhancing market access and improving trade flows between the two economies.

This engagement comes as part of Reynolds’ broader diplomatic tour, which includes discussions with key trade counterparts from both the United States and the European Union—two of the United Kingdom’s most significant trading partners. The primary focus will be on setting clear timelines and frameworks for recently agreed-upon trade understandings, particularly those concerning tariffs on steel and automotive goods.

While the trade agreements reached last month are political in nature rather than formalized treaties, both parties are moving forward to clarify details and execution strategies to ensure mutual benefit.

The UK government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining productive dialogue with G7 and EU partners to create a more streamlined and resilient trading environment for British exporters. “We recognise our relationship with G7 allies and EU counterparts must continue to evolve and deliver a better trading environment for our businesses and exporters,” Reynolds stated ahead of the meetings.

In parallel, Reynolds will meet with India’s Minister of Commerce, Piyush Goyal, to further progress the UK-India Free Trade Agreement, which is currently undergoing legal finalization and is anticipated to open new commercial opportunities once ratified.

The UK is also continuing discussions with the EU to reduce administrative barriers on food imports. As part of its commitment to facilitate trade, the UK announced it would remove planned border checks on EU-imported fruits and vegetables originally scheduled for July—an encouraging move for businesses in the agri-food sector.

These high-level meetings underscore the UK’s proactive role in shaping a more agile and globally connected trade policy, positioning itself as a key player in advancing international cooperation and trade facilitation.
