The U.S. Dairy Export Council reported a significant boost in dairy exports for August 2024, with strong global demand for U.S. cheese driving the increase. Total U.S. dairy export volumes rose by 1.7 percent compared to last year, while export values saw a notable 10 percent increase, reaching $708 million—the largest rise this year.
Cheese shipments led the growth, climbing 15 percent year over year. Notably, exports of gouda and other specialty cheeses surged by 31 percent from August 2023. Meanwhile, exports of low-protein dairy products increased by 5 percent, while nonfat dry milk and skim milk powder saw a slight decline of 1 percent.
The Middle East and North Africa emerged as key markets for U.S. cheese, with exports to the region skyrocketing by 136 percent. Other regions also showed robust demand, including Mexico, the Philippines, South America, and Central America/Caribbean, further solidifying the U.S. as a leading global cheese supplier.
