In response, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the profound loss and praised the late leader’s contributions to strengthening ties between the two countries.
The leaders held extensive talks on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing regional and global issues of mutual concern. They highlighted the strong historical bonds between Vietnam and India and emphasized the importance of nurturing and advancing their longstanding friendship.
Since the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016, the relationship has seen substantial growth. Bilateral trade has surged, reaching $15 billion in 2023, and the launch of direct flights has greatly increased tourism. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening this partnership, focusing on key areas including political trust, defense and security, economic and trade relations, science and technology, and cultural exchanges.
Prime Ministers Chính and Modi agreed to continue regular high-level exchanges and strengthen the role of the Joint Committee to effectively implement the Action Plan for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2024-28 period. They also discussed enhancing cooperation in defense, cybersecurity, and intelligence sharing, with ongoing support from India in training and capacity building for Vietnam’s defense and security sectors.
The leaders set ambitious targets to double bilateral trade and investment by 2030, emphasizing the importance of removing trade barriers and promoting trade facilitation measures. Prime Minister Chính encouraged increased investment from Indian corporations in Vietnam, particularly in technology, economic cooperation, and global supply chains.
Science and technology cooperation was a major focus, with both sides agreeing to explore partnerships in key areas such as core technologies, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and innovation. They also discussed joint efforts in rare earth mining, IT development, and workforce training.
The leaders expressed their commitment to advancing cooperation in education, culture, and tourism, drawing on shared cultural and historical values. They also reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea, advocating for the resolution of disputes through peaceful means and adherence to international law.
The visit concluded with the adoption of a Joint Declaration on Enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the inauguration of a new military software facility. The leaders witnessed the signing of nine cooperation agreements, further cementing the broad and dynamic partnership between Vietnam and India.
Prime Minister Chính expressed gratitude for the warm reception and extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Vietnam in the near future.
