Spain’s state-owned development finance institution, COFIDES, announced on March 17, 2026, a commitment of up to €150 million to a cutting-edge renewable energy platform. The investment, made through Spain’s Co-investment Fund (FOCO), represents a significant joint effort with UK-based infrastructure investor Equitix and an unnamed Australian institutional investor.
The platform will focus on developing, building, and operating a portfolio of wind, solar PV, and battery-storage assets across Spain. According to the announcement from COFIDES, the venture will partner with local Spanish developers, such as Capital Energy, and aims to achieve a total capacity of 1.4 gigawatts by 2030. An initial portfolio of 330 megawatts is reportedly already operational or under construction.
This foreign direct investment highlights a growing trend of cross-border collaboration in the green energy transition. Ángela Pérez, CEO of COFIDES, stated that “this investment is significant not only because of its scale, technological innovation and climate relevance, but also due to its combination of hybridization solutions and positive environmental impact.” The project signals strong investor confidence in Spain’s renewable energy sector and its potential for innovative, hybrid energy solutions.
