South Korea is taking proactive steps to strengthen trade relations with the United States, approaching ongoing discussions with a spirit of cooperation and strategic focus.

Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun shared that early negotiations between South Korea and the United States have started positively. After returning from Washington, he emphasized that Seoul plans to monitor developments carefully while maintaining an optimistic outlook.

“This coming week, working-level discussions will commence, during which a specific working group will be confirmed,” Minister Ahn noted. He added that South Korea aims to continue consultations with the U.S. through early July, focusing on securing important tariff exemptions that support stable and mutually beneficial trade.

Following the first round of talks, both nations agreed to work collaboratively toward a comprehensive package of agreements designed to lift new U.S. tariffs ahead of the planned end of the reciprocal tariff pause in July.

During their visit to Washington, Minister Ahn and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok engaged in productive discussions with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. According to officials, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to achieving meaningful, balanced progress in trade relations.

These ongoing efforts reflect the strong economic partnership between South Korea and the United States, with both countries eager to maintain a fair and dynamic trading environment.
