The Philippines is set to significantly boost its coconut oil exports to Australia, tapping into the rising demand for high-quality, natural ingredients in Australian food, beverage, and cosmetic sectors. This expansion, driven by Ares Merchants Philippines Inc. (AMPI), will add an estimated 30,000 metric tons of coconut oil annually to Australia’s imports, a move expected to increase Philippine export revenues by approximately $70 million.

This initiative represents a growing trade opportunity for the Philippines, aligning with the country’s broader strategy to strengthen agricultural exports and stimulate economic growth. “Targeting premium markets like Australia not only brings higher returns for Filipino farmers but also solidifies our trade relations by supplying high-quality products that meet international standards,” explained Jose Leonardo Tañada, managing director of AMPI.

Australia’s demand for coconut oil continues to rise, particularly due to its increasing use in health-conscious and natural-based products. From culinary applications to cosmetic formulations, coconut oil is valued for its rich concentration of beneficial medium-chain fatty acids and its versatility. Australian consumers are increasingly choosing coconut oil as a natural alternative, helping to fuel the demand for Philippine exports.

Luisa Rust, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner at the Australian Embassy, praised this strengthened partnership and highlighted AMPI’s role as a reputable supplier. “Australian companies and consumers are seeking trusted sources for natural ingredients. The Philippines, with its high-quality coconut oil and export expertise, is a perfect match for our growing needs,” she noted.

With its reputation as one of the world’s leading coconut producers, the Philippines is well-positioned to serve the Australian market and beyond, supporting sustainable agriculture while contributing to the country’s economic resilience. By showcasing the Philippines’ agricultural strength through trade partnerships like this one, the nation is paving the way for other local producers to expand into international markets.
