Peru is set to host a high-level trade mission led by the United States Department of Agriculture from June 9 to 12, 2025. This collaborative initiative aims to boost agricultural exports, enhance market access, and build stronger trade relations between Peru and the United States.

The mission brings together more than 50 representatives from American agribusinesses, trade organizations, and state-level agriculture departments. Their shared goal is to develop meaningful business relationships, create new export opportunities, and work toward improving the trade balance between the two countries.

“Strengthening our trade ties with Peru is a strategic move for American agriculture,” said Daniel Whitley, who will lead the mission. “This initiative helps American farmers and producers connect directly with buyers in South America, while promoting economic growth and rural development through trade.”

Peru is already one of the most important markets for American agricultural goods in South America, and the United States remains Peru’s second-largest agricultural supplier. While bilateral agricultural trade has grown to 5.3 billion dollars since 2009, a trade gap of 3.66 billion dollars persists, making this mission a timely opportunity to narrow that difference.

During the four-day visit, delegates will engage in business-to-business meetings with buyers from both Peru and Ecuador. In addition, they will participate in in-depth market briefings, networking events, and site visits aimed at uncovering new trade prospects and gaining valuable insights into regional demand.

Key officials joining the mission include the Secretary of Agriculture from Maryland, the Director of Agriculture from Montana, and representatives from the states of Indiana, Georgia, and Wisconsin. They are accompanied by a diverse group of agribusiness leaders from sectors such as dairy, grains, meat, soybeans, and food processing.

Organizations and companies taking part include those involved in dairy cooperatives, livestock exports, soybean products, and agricultural trade development. These firms aim to showcase the quality, variety, and sustainability of American agricultural goods to potential partners in Peru and the surrounding region.

This mission is part of the broader export strategy for 2025 by the United States Department of Agriculture, which focuses on opening new markets and promoting U.S. products abroad. Recent missions to countries like Thailand and Guatemala have already resulted in nearly 23 million dollars in projected sales. Future missions are expected in markets including Mexico, Taiwan, and Côte d’Ivoire.

By deepening ties with Peru and neighboring economies, the United States is not only supporting its agricultural sector but also contributing to a more connected, secure, and sustainable global food system.
