Nepal’s international trade sector continues to show resilience and growth, driven by a surge in edible oil exports. Over the past eight months, the country has exported processed cooking oil worth approximately Rs 56 billion, reinforcing its position as a key player in regional trade.

By importing raw materials and enhancing value through domestic processing, Nepal has successfully expanded its export footprint. According to the latest trade data from the Department of Customs, overall exports have increased by 57.20% compared to the same period last year, showcasing Nepal’s growing trade competitiveness.

Among the top-performing export goods, soybean oil contributed Rs 47.94 billion, followed by sunflower oil at Rs 7.98 billion. Additionally, Nepal has seen strong demand for premium products such as cardamom (Rs 5.83 billion) and carpets (Rs 4.32 billion), reflecting the country’s diverse export potential.

While imports have also increased, Nepal has maintained a trade surplus with 34 countries, demonstrating its ability to strengthen economic partnerships and expand global market access. This positive trade performance highlights the country’s commitment to enhancing export-driven growth and value-added production.

With ongoing efforts to boost trade, diversify exports, and strengthen supply chains, Nepal is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging global opportunities.
