Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), has clarified that the upcoming increase in anti-dumping import duties will not solely target products from China but will extend to imports from all countries.

Addressing the press during his visit to the Rendang Asese Center in Padang, West Sumatra, on Sunday, July 7, 2024, Zulhas emphasized that the anti-dumping policy aims to address imported goods with significantly increased import values over the past three years.

“This anti-dumping policy applies universally, covering any goods imported over the past three years that have seen a substantial rise in import values,” explained Zulhas.

He underscored the legality and global recognition of such regulations, highlighting their role in safeguarding Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). According to Zulhas, international norms permit the imposition of anti-dumping duties when import values escalate.

The formulation of these regulations will be overseen by the Indonesian Trade Security Committee (KPPI) and the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI). These bodies will identify the specific products subject to anti-dumping duties based on rigorous assessments.

Zulhas also noted that similar policies could be reciprocally applied by other countries to Indonesian exports if their export values spike, stressing the importance of compliance with international trade regulations.
