Cambodia’s significant increase in fresh longan exports, which reached over 14,800 tonnes in the first semester of 2024—a 120% rise compared to the same period last year, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
According to MAFF spokeswoman Im Rachna, Cambodia’s entry into the Chinese market in late 2022 has been pivotal. Chinese consumers have embraced Cambodia’s fresh longan for its taste, leading to a steady rise in orders each year.
“By adhering to Chinese technical standards, Cambodian growers ensure a stable supply of high-quality fresh longan to meet market demand,” Rachna affirmed.
Farmers compliant with Chinese customs standards command higher prices, illustrating the benefits of quality compliance in export markets.
“With the growth in fresh longan exports to China, collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Commerce has been instrumental. This partnership aims to elevate Cambodia’s agricultural products, particularly in key markets like China,” Rachna emphasized.
Most fresh longan exports are destined for China, with some also going to Thailand, priced between 3,000-3,800 riels per kilogram.
