The 2024-2025 season is shaping up to be a remarkable year for Chile’s stone fruit exports, with shipments of plums, peaches, and nectarines projected to increase by 4% over the previous year. This growth, estimated at 38 million boxes averaging 8.3 kilograms each, reflects Chile’s strategic efforts to strengthen its position in global agricultural trade.
Chile’s ability to deliver high-quality produce consistently has fueled demand in international markets, particularly in Asia and North America. Last season, China received 55% of Chilean nectarines and 63% of plum exports, while North America accounted for 50% of peach shipments. To diversify its export footprint, Chile is now focusing on expanding into new markets such as Mexico and Brazil, both of which hold significant potential due to their high consumption rates of stone fruits.
Nectarines are expected to take center stage this season, with shipments forecast to rise by 22% to 14.1 million boxes. This milestone will mark the first time nectarines lead Chile’s stone fruit exports, driven by the popularity of both white-fleshed and yellow-fleshed varieties. Peaches are also set for a 4% increase in exports, rebounding after two challenging seasons.
The estimated FOB value of these exports, surpassing USD 540 million, highlights the vital role of Chilean stone fruits in global trade. This achievement is the result of collaborative efforts to improve quality, enhance supply chain efficiency, and promote Chilean produce to consumers worldwide.
Chile’s robust export strategy demonstrates how aligning quality assurance with market expansion can generate sustainable growth in international trade. By adapting to evolving market demands and exploring new trade opportunities, Chile continues to set benchmarks in the global agricultural export sector.
