Albania’s cabbage exports have experienced impressive growth, increasing by 71% in early 2025. Favorable climatic conditions and expanding market opportunities in Eastern and Baltic countries have strengthened Albania’s role as a key supplier in the global vegetable trade.
Recent data from INSTAT highlights a surge in vegetable exports, reflecting the country’s ability to meet international demand. Exporters are responding to evolving market needs, particularly as local production challenges in Eastern Europe create opportunities for Albanian produce. Cabbage, a staple in many European diets, continues to gain popularity in Bulgaria, Poland, Ukraine, and the Baltic states.
Albanian farmers are enhancing production by leveraging open-field cultivation, ensuring high-quality yields while reducing reliance on greenhouse farming. The country supplies two key cabbage varieties—head cabbage to Serbia, Croatia, Austria, and Bosnia, and salad cabbage to the Baltic region and Eastern Europe. This strategic diversification supports trade expansion and reinforces Albania’s position as a trusted agricultural exporter.
The increase in exports has been particularly notable in Serbia, Bosnia, and Kosovo, with Serbia recording an 86% rise in cabbage imports. Bulgaria and Poland also saw substantial growth, with demand rising by 95% and 144%, respectively. The leading agricultural regions of Lushnja, Divjaka, Fieri, Vlora, and Shkodra continue to drive production, ensuring Albania remains a competitive player in the global vegetable market.
