Afghanistan’s renowned pomegranates are set to reach new markets as the country’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment accelerates efforts to expand exports to China and strengthen regional trade partnerships. With a growing global demand for Afghan pomegranates, recent discussions with Chinese traders signal promising trade opportunities that could elevate Afghanistan’s agricultural exports on the world stage.
To date, Afghanistan has successfully exported 20,894 tons of pomegranates to Pakistan, India, and Kazakhstan, underscoring the country’s capacity for high-quality produce exports. Abdul Baqi Bina, Deputy of the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, expressed optimism about these developments, stating, “Our goal is to increase exports and tap into new markets, especially China, where there is substantial interest in our products.”
Afghanistan’s reputation for premium pomegranates is steadily growing, supported by strong production levels this season. Local producers are also hopeful about increased demand, both domestically and abroad. Nematullah Nemat, a pomegranate grower, highlighted the opportunity to reduce seasonal fruit waste by enhancing both local consumption and export channels.
As Afghanistan continues to build strong trade relations with neighboring countries and explore new markets, the Chamber remains confident in the country’s ability to strengthen its agricultural exports and contribute positively to regional trade networks.
