Government officials from WTO member countries and observer nations eligible for technical assistance are encouraged to apply for the 2024 Advanced Global Workshop on the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA) 2012. Scheduled from April 29 to May 3, 2024, the workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of key issues related to government procurement, international trade, development, and good governance, with a focus on the GPA 2012.
Applications for participation are open until March 8, 2024, providing eligible officials an opportunity to engage in discussions and expand their knowledge and skills in this critical area of global trade policy.
The workshop agenda will cover recent developments concerning the GPA 2012, including discussions on sustainable procurement, the involvement of small and medium-sized enterprises in government procurement markets, promoting supplier competition, combating corrupt practices, and implementing e-procurement systems. Participants will also explore the benefits, challenges, and procedures for acceding to the GPA 2012, with a focus on the flexibilities available to developing countries seeking accession.
Experts from the WTO Secretariat and other international institutions will lead sessions during the workshop, which will be conducted in English, French, and Spanish—the three official languages of the WTO.
This initiative underscores the importance of capacity-building and knowledge-sharing in fostering effective government procurement practices and promoting transparency and fairness in international trade.
