Peru’s blueberry sector has achieved substantial growth this year, with fresh blueberry exports to the United States rising by 74% from January to August 2024. According to the Association of Exporters (Adex), Peru’s blueberry exports reached a total value of $545.9 million for 72,000 tons, marking a 41.5% increase from the $385.7 million reported during the same period in 2023. This growth underscores Peru’s continued expansion in the global produce market.

 

The United States remained the top destination for Peruvian blueberries, accounting for 59.8% of total exports, with purchases reaching $326.2 million. Demand was also robust in other key markets, including the Netherlands ($84.9 million), Hong Kong ($37.9 million), China ($29.4 million), and the United Kingdom ($29 million). Additional markets for Peruvian blueberries included Brazil, Thailand, Taiwan, Spain, and Colombia, highlighting the fruit’s growing international appeal.

 

Leading exporters such as Camposol, Hortifruit Peru, Agrovision Peru, and Exportadora Frutícola del Sur played a pivotal role in driving this growth, meeting high global standards with quality products and consistent supply.

 

Within Peru, the La Libertad region emerged as the leading exporter, contributing $316.1 million, or 57.9% of total blueberry exports. Other major exporting regions included Lambayeque, Ica, Ancash, Lima, Piura, Moquegua, and Arequipa. Together, these regions have helped make Peru a major player in global blueberry trade, strengthening its economy and showcasing its agricultural strengths.
