Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports have witnessed a significant increase, with a turnover surpassing 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in the first four months of this year. This marks a notable growth of 32.9% compared to the same period last year, according to a report by the Vietnam News Agency citing the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Major importers for Vietnamese produce during this period include China, South Korea, the United States, and Thailand.
In April alone, exports are estimated to have reached around 539.8 million dollars, reflecting an increase of nearly 14.9% from the previous month and a significant 37.8% rise from the same period last year.
The Agency of Foreign Trade, under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, anticipates further growth in fruit and vegetable exports, particularly for products like durian. This optimism stems from the expectation that more growing areas and packaging facilities will receive certification, facilitating smoother export processes.
Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts continued growth in the fruit and vegetable industry, with an estimated export turnover of 6 to 6.5 billion dollars for the year. This projection indicates a 15-20% increase compared to last year's figures.
In 2023, Vietnam achieved a record-breaking 5.69 billion dollars in fruit and vegetable exports, representing a remarkable 70% year-on-year increase, according to the ministry.
