Vietnam is setting its sights on a significant milestone in rice exports, with plans to ship over 7.5 million tons of rice in 2025. The majority of these exports will come from the country’s Mekong Delta region, a key agricultural hub renowned for its rice production.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Mekong Delta is expected to produce around 24 million tons of rice in 2025. The nation is anticipating strong export numbers, with approximately 4.53 million tons of rice scheduled for shipment in the first half of the year. The remaining 3 million tons will be exported in the second half.
To optimize exports, the Ministry has proposed increasing rice shipments during peak production months, specifically February, March, April, July, August, and September, when rice production will be at its highest.
Although Vietnam plans to cultivate 7 million hectares of rice in 2025—132,000 hectares less than in 2024—the national rice output is still expected to reach 43.1 million tons, only a slight decrease of 323,000 tons from the previous year.
This continued focus on rice export growth will not only benefit Vietnam’s agricultural sector but will also solidify the country’s role as a major player in the global rice market.
