Vietnam has reached a significant milestone by upgrading its diplomatic relations with France to a “comprehensive strategic partnership.” This notable achievement was announced during Vietnamese President To Lam’s recent visit to Paris, highlighting Vietnam’s growing importance in global supply chains and its skillful navigation of international relations through its flexible foreign policy, often referred to as “bamboo diplomacy.”

During a joint press conference, President To Lam and French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security and defense cooperation. They also expressed enthusiasm about collaborating in innovative sectors such as aerospace, artificial intelligence, and airport transport infrastructure, signaling an exciting expansion of their partnership beyond traditional domains.

The economic ties between Vietnam and France are flourishing, with total trade turnover reaching an impressive $3.4 billion in the first eight months of this year, reflecting a robust 6.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth underscores the strengthening of economic collaboration and the shared benefits that both nations can gain from this enhanced relationship.

This upgrade in relations not only showcases Vietnam’s proactive approach to fostering international partnerships but also enhances its global standing as a vital player in the international trade landscape. By solidifying ties with France, Vietnam opens doors to new opportunities for trade, investment, and collaboration, paving the way for mutual growth and prosperity.
