Vietnam and China are accelerating the construction of a pilot smart border gate at the Huu Nghi (Vietnam) – Youyi Guan (China) international border crossing. According to the Vietnam News Agency, this collaborative project is designed to modernize customs clearance and enhance bilateral trade efficiency.

The pilot program utilizes advanced automated technologies, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), automated crane systems, and specialized smart customs clearance platforms. Reports from Xinhua and the Vietnam Investment Review indicate that these systems will enable 24-hour, contactless customs processing at the border.

Once fully operational, the automated infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce customs clearance times, eliminate persistent port congestion, and boost bilateral agricultural trade between the two countries. By automating routine clearance tasks and enabling continuous operations, the smart border gate project serves as a key technological initiative to optimize cross-border logistics.
