Turkey’s steel and non-ferrous metals industries are making a strong contribution to the country’s international trade performance, achieving a combined $2.7 billion in exports in May 2025. These sectors accounted for 12.7% of Turkey’s total exports for the month, reinforcing their importance to the country’s export-driven economy, according to the Mediterranean Exporter Associations (ADMIB).

The steel industry led the way with $1.5 billion in exports, up 3.6% year-on-year. Non-ferrous metals followed closely with $1.2 billion, reflecting a 2.6% increase. ADMIB Chairperson Fuat Tosyalı emphasized the sectors’ continued momentum despite global challenges, noting their forward-looking approach and adaptability to new trade requirements.

“This performance reflects the strength and sustainability of Turkish industry,” said Tosyalı. “By treating global environmental standards like the European Green Deal not just as obligations but as opportunities, we are positioning our sectors for long-term international competitiveness.”

ADMIB’s regional figures for May showed that non-ferrous metals exports increased by 4%, reaching $74 million, while steel exports slightly declined to $188 million. Nonetheless, the demand for Turkish metals remains strong, especially in key markets across Europe and the Middle East.

Germany was Turkey’s top destination for steel exports, followed by Italy, Romania, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Major gains were seen in exports to Belgium (up 167%), Spain (64%), and Ukraine (49%). For ADMIB, Romania topped the list of May export destinations, followed by Italy, Iraq, Germany, and Egypt. Notable increases included Lebanon (203%), Ukraine (143%), and Morocco (106%).

“These numbers highlight Turkey’s growing role as a reliable and innovative supplier in the global metals trade,” Tosyalı added. “We are committed to high standards of quality, environmental care, and efficient service that strengthen Turkey’s position in international markets.”

This robust export performance reflects Turkey’s strategic focus on trade growth and sustainable industrial development, further enhancing the country’s reputation as a key player in global supply chains.
