A Turkish delegation, led by Tayfun Kilic, Deputy Director General of the Turkish Ministry of Trade, along with key industry representatives, embarked on an inaugural visit to the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce, and Animal By-Products on January 29th.
During this visit, the two sides engaged in constructive discussions regarding market access and the expansion of Turkish agricultural and food products in the Chinese market. Notable emphasis was placed on products like citrus fruits, poultry, and seafood.
Turkish exporters are enthusiastic about enhancing their shipments to China in 2024. Hayrettin Uçak, the head of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, highlighted Turkey’s intention to ease the entry of various products, including citrus fruits, pomegranates, grapes, apples, figs, almonds, and kiwifruit, following the successful resumption of cherry exports to China. Uçak also noted positive progress in negotiations between the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and Chinese authorities.
Turkey expressed its interest in exporting fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market officially in October 2023 through written communication. Furthermore, Turkey is exploring avenues to diversify its export portfolio by including seafood, poultry, eggs, and dairy products. Uçak underscored Turkey’s commitment to delivering high-quality products at competitive and affordable prices.
This collaborative effort between Turkey and China holds promise for expanding trade relations and offering a wider range of quality products to consumers. The International Trade Council continues to monitor these developments in the global trade landscape.
