Taiwan continues to maintain active and close communication with the United States regarding ongoing tariff discussions, according to a recent statement from the island’s government.
Recognized globally as a hub for advanced semiconductor production, Taiwan has played a vital role in strengthening global supply chains. In April, the U.S. government announced a temporary 90-day pause on proposed reciprocal tariffs, including a 32% import duty that would have impacted key Taiwanese exports. This pause has provided both sides an opportunity to deepen negotiations.
Taiwanese authorities confirmed that, while discussions are progressing, details remain confidential in line with a mutual understanding between the two parties. “Taiwan and the United States have continued to communicate closely on tariff negotiations, but due to the tacit agreement between the two sides, it is not convenient to give more information publicly at this stage,” Taiwan’s cabinet said in a written response.
The government emphasized its commitment to transparency, stating that any notable developments will be shared with the public in due course.
Earlier in May, Taiwan concluded its first round of substantive discussions with the U.S., describing the engagement as constructive and candid—marking a positive step forward in their economic dialogue.
This ongoing cooperation reflects the shared interest in promoting fair trade and bolstering economic resilience between Taiwan and the United States.
