According to reports from Reuters, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have formally signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This major trade contract, signed on August 30, 2026, is designed to eliminate tariffs on over 90% of all traded goods between the two nations, providing a significant boost to bilateral commerce and strengthening economic ties across key industrial sectors.
As reported by Reuters and Bloomberg, the newly finalized agreement is expected to drive substantial growth in several critical areas, most notably the energy, defense, and automotive sectors. Under the terms of the contract, South Korea will progressively phase out import tariffs on crude oil originating from the UAE. In exchange, the UAE will remove import duties on South Korean automobiles, automotive parts, and defense systems. This reciprocal tariff elimination is anticipated to streamline supply chains and lower transaction costs for businesses operating in both jurisdictions.
