Exports through Mombasa Port have witnessed a notable 85% increase this year, driven by efforts among regional countries to achieve better trade balance and reduce dependence on imports.
The announcement was made at Mombasa Port’s container terminal berth 22, where officials highlighted the substantial growth in export volumes. This surge reflects the collective efforts of regional nations to bolster their export capabilities.
“This year, Mombasa Port has experienced a remarkable rise in export volumes, underscoring our pivotal role in regional trade,” stated the port authority spokesperson.
The port recently welcomed MV Ever Vim, noted for its eco-friendly operations with minimal carbon emissions. During its inaugural call, the vessel unloaded over 2,500 containers of imported goods and loaded 2,700 containers destined for various markets.
Highlighting growing confidence in Mombasa Port’s services, officials noted the arrival of twelve new vessels in recent months.
“We project handling 1.8 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) this financial year, a substantial increase from last year’s one million TEUs,” added the spokesperson.
