Mexico is set to enhance its agricultural trade by launching fresh potato exports to the United States starting in March. This initiative, part of a bilateral agreement, opens new opportunities for Mexican farmers while ensuring a steady supply of high-quality produce for U.S. markets.

With 500 hectares certified for export, Mexico plans to ship approximately 15,000 tons of potatoes in the initial phase. The timing aligns strategically with a market window when U.S. domestic potato production is lower, allowing for smooth trade flows and stronger supply chain integration. Key states such as California, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, Washington, Wisconsin, and Oregon will benefit from these imports, ensuring product availability for consumers and businesses alike.

Mexico’s agricultural sector continues to expand, with 22 states harvesting fresh potatoes year-round and producing an estimated two million tons annually. This growing trade relationship highlights the strength of international cooperation and the potential for further investments in the sector.

The expansion of potato exports reflects Mexico’s commitment to global trade and economic growth, strengthening agricultural ties with the U.S. while providing more opportunities for local producers to reach international markets.
