Lithuania is making a positive impact on global trade by contributing EUR 20,000 to the World Trade Organization’s Global Trust Fund for 2024. This generous contribution aims to empower government officials from developing and least-developed countries (LDCs) through training programs, enabling them to enhance their skills and deepen their participation in the international trading system.

The WTO Global Trust Fund plays a crucial role in supporting trade development, organizing around 280 activities annually that provide targeted training at national and regional levels. These programs focus on key areas such as agriculture, services, and trade facilitation, helping countries maximize the benefits of trade. Over 20 years, the fund has successfully organized nearly 2,800 activities, contributing to stronger, more resilient economies.

Lithuania’s WTO Ambassador Raimondas Ališauskas emphasized the country’s commitment to inclusive global trade, stating, “Fair and open trade is essential for economic development and prosperity. Lithuania’s support for the WTO Trust Fund reflects our dedication to a multilateral trade system that promotes growth, especially for developing nations.”

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala praised Lithuania’s contribution, saying, “Lithuania’s support helps create an inclusive trading system that generates economic opportunities for people around the world. By equipping government officials with the skills they need to thrive in international trade, this contribution fosters growth and resilience.”

With a total of CHF 450,000 (over EUR 480,000) contributed to the WTO Global Trust Fund over the years, Lithuania continues to demonstrate its leadership in promoting global trade cooperation and development.
