Despite a decrease in volume, Hong Kong’s kiwi fruit imports in 2024 have demonstrated a promising trend with a significant increase in value. The city imported 11,000 tons of kiwi fruits in 2024, marking a 21.8% decline from the previous year. However, the total import value reached $49 million, highlighting the city’s resilience and consistent demand for high-quality fruits.

Between 2014 and 2024, the value of kiwi fruit imports grew at a steady annual rate of 1.2%, with notable growth in 2016, when the import value surged by 27%. While imports peaked at $58 million in 2019, Hong Kong’s market continues to reflect a strong, steady appetite for kiwi fruits, with the 2024 figures showcasing a positive trade environment.

New Zealand, Chile, and Japan were key suppliers, collectively accounting for 80% of Hong Kong’s total imports. Japan experienced the most impressive growth in both volume and value, reflecting its competitive edge in the kiwi fruit trade. New Zealand and Italy also remain essential contributors, underscoring the diversity and reliability of the trade partnerships supporting Hong Kong’s demand for fresh produce.

In 2023, the average import price for kiwi fruit stood at $3,544 per ton, showing some fluctuation but remaining within a consistent growth pattern. Notably, Japan’s high-quality kiwi fruits commanded the highest price, further solidifying its position as a key player in the global trade of premium fruits.

With continued strategic partnerships and a growing market, Hong Kong remains a strong hub for international kiwi fruit trade, offering opportunities for further growth and collaboration across global supply chains.
