In a remarkable boost to international trade and economic cooperation, France and Vietnam have signed a series of high-impact agreements valued at over $10 billion. These new deals reflect both countries’ shared commitment to deepening economic engagement and supporting sustainable development through strategic partnerships.

French President Emmanuel Macron’s official visit to Hanoi marked a significant milestone in trade diplomacy, with 14 agreements signed across key industries including aviation, defense, healthcare, infrastructure, and technology. These collaborations underscore Vietnam’s growing role as a trade hub in Southeast Asia and France’s intent to strengthen its commercial footprint in the region.

One of the highlights is the purchase of 20 Airbus A330neo wide-body aircraft by Vietnamese carrier VietJet, reinforcing Vietnam’s fast-growing aviation sector. This move is set to enhance air connectivity, support tourism, and create new trade opportunities in logistics and travel services.

Further solidifying economic ties, French firm Airbus Defence and Space entered into a new agreement to explore the development of Vietnam’s future earth-observation satellite program. This partnership reflects a shared vision for innovation, sustainability, and technology transfer in global trade.

In the healthcare sector, cooperation with Sanofi will expand vaccine access in Vietnam, contributing to public health resilience and facilitating smoother cross-border health initiatives.

Trade infrastructure also received a major uplift, with a French transport company joining forces with Saigon Newport to develop a $600 million deepwater container terminal in northern Vietnam. Scheduled for completion by 2028, this project is poised to significantly enhance Vietnam’s port capabilities, improve trade logistics, and attract greater foreign investment.

The visit also included agreements focused on defense industry collaboration, cybersecurity, and maritime transport—all key areas that support a stable and secure trade environment.

This multi-sector cooperation reflects a growing trend of trade-driven diplomacy, with France and Vietnam showing how strong bilateral relations can translate into tangible benefits for both economies. As Vietnam continues to diversify its international partnerships, France stands out as a reliable ally in advancing trade, innovation, and infrastructure.

President Macron’s Southeast Asia tour, which includes upcoming visits to Indonesia and Singapore, reinforces the message that global partnerships are vital for a resilient and inclusive trade future.
