A major seaport in Bangladesh has experienced significant growth in export-import trade during the fiscal year 2023-24 compared to the previous fiscal year. In FY2022-23, the port saw the arrival of 827 ships. This number rose to 846 ships in FY2023-24, surpassing the target of 840 ships by 6. This data was revealed in a recent press release.

 

Car imports also saw an increase, with 15,340 cars imported in FY2023-24, up from 13,576 in FY2022-23, marking an increase of 1,764 cars. Over the last decade, the port has managed the import of 10,785,979 cars The total cargo handled by the port in FY2023-24 reached 108.68 lakh metric tonnes, an increase from 99.05 lakh metric tonnes in FY2022-23.

 

Additionally, the port managed 31,044 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers in FY2023-24, up from 26,583 TEU containers in the previous fiscal year. Revenue collection also improved, with Tk 319 crore collected in FY2023-24, compared to Tk 302 crore in FY2022-23, reflecting a 28.55 percent year-on-year increase.

 

The chairman of the port authority credited the port’s increased efficiency to the leadership of the government and the dedicated oversight of the Ministry of Shipping.
