In a continued effort to foster stable and mutually beneficial trade relations, Brazil and the United States are currently engaged in negotiations to reach a mutual understanding on tariffs. The discussions reflect a shared commitment to economic cooperation and regional integration.
Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad confirmed that he has held positive talks with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, advocating not only for Brazil but for the broader South American region. Emphasizing the trade deficits South American nations maintain with the U.S., Haddad noted that imposing tariffs on such countries presents unnecessary trade friction.
“The most important thing at this moment is to say that we are at the table negotiating the terms of an understanding,” Haddad said during his visit to Los Angeles, where he also promoted investment in Brazilian data center infrastructure.
Minister Haddad praised Secretary Bessent’s openness to dialogue, describing the talks as “fruitful” and essential for ensuring that bilateral trade continues on a productive path.
These negotiations follow the implementation of a 10% tariff on many U.S. imports, including goods from Brazil, announced on April 2. The constructive tone of the talks offers optimism for a future trade framework that supports economic growth and supply chain resilience across the Americas.
