Bangladesh's Food Minister, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, announced that the country will focus on exporting rice instead of importing it in the future.
"In the past two years, our government has refrained from importing rice, and this year, there is no necessity for rice imports," he stated during the inauguration of the Agriculture Technology Fair-2024 at Sapahar Upazila Parishad Hall in Naogaon district on Sunday. The event was reported by BSS.
Minister Majumder praised the government's agricultural incentives as well-timed and strategic, highlighting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's consistent support for farmers through subsidies and incentives. He emphasized the Prime Minister's efforts to modernize agriculture and make it technology friendly.
The meeting, chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Masud Hossain, also featured speeches from Upazila Chairman Shahjahan Hossain, Vice-chairmen Noimuddin and Fahima Khatun, Upazila Agriculture Officer Shapla Khatun, and Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Borhan Uddin.
Minister Majumder noted the increased use of technology in agriculture, which has significantly boosted production levels.
During the event, he distributed incentives for Aman paddy farming to 1,210 farmers and handed out education sub-stipends and bicycles to students from ethnic minorities in Naogaon district.
