Australia has paved the way for a major advancement in international energy trade by granting environmental approval for the $19 billion Australia-Asia Power Link. This landmark project is designed to generate 6GW of renewable energy, with a significant portion—up to 15 percent of Singapore’s energy needs—set to be delivered via an undersea cable, highlighting Australia’s growing role as a key player in global green energy markets.
The Australia-Asia Power Link, led by SunCable, will establish the world’s largest solar precinct in Australia’s Northern Territory. Spanning 12,000 hectares (29,650 acres), the project is expected to create 14,300 jobs, further solidifying Australia’s position as a renewable energy leader. Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek described the project as a "generation-defining" initiative that will elevate Australia’s status as a global powerhouse in renewable energy trade.
SunCable Managing Director Cameron Garnsworthy expressed optimism about the project’s future, viewing the government’s approval as a strong endorsement of the company’s vision and stewardship. With this approval, SunCable is now set to move forward with detailed planning, aiming for a Final Investment Decision by 2027.
