Mexico’s Agriculture Minister Julio Berdegue will travel to Washington next week to meet with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins in a bid to reopen the border for Mexican cattle exports. The meeting reflects both nations’ shared commitment to strengthening agricultural trade and ensuring safe, sustainable livestock movement across borders.

President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed optimism that the talks will lead to an agreement supporting the resumption of cattle trade, emphasizing how vital this sector is to rural livelihoods and cross-border economic growth.

Mexico has reported that recent cases of livestock infection in Nuevo Leon have been effectively contained, demonstrating the country’s swift response and strong biosecurity measures. This collaboration highlights the two nations’ ongoing efforts to balance trade facilitation with high animal health standards.

By working together, Mexico and the United States aim to reinforce the resilience of their agricultural supply chains and sustain the long-standing partnership that drives prosperity for both countries’ farming and export sectors.
