In a continued effort to enhance bilateral economic ties, trade ministers from the United States and South Korea reaffirmed their shared commitment to finalizing a tariff agreement during high-level discussions held on Monday.

According to South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo engaged with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to advocate for tariff exemptions. Key sectors discussed included steel, automotive exports, and broader reciprocal trade policies.

The meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining balanced trade relations and advancing mutual economic growth. Minister Yeo reiterated South Korea’s request for relief from specific tariff measures, aiming to bolster the competitiveness of South Korean industries in the U.S. market.

Additionally, Acting U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Joseph Yun signaled potential developments in future trade discussions, including updates to the existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA), as reported by local media outlets.

This renewed diplomatic engagement highlights the ongoing cooperation between the two allies in shaping a fair, open, and rules-based trade environment.
