Japan’s Economic Revitalization Minister, Ryosei Akazawa, is expected to travel to the United States around May 30 to continue a series of high-level trade discussions aimed at deepening economic cooperation and addressing tariff-related matters, according to sources familiar with the plans.

This anticipated fourth round of talks marks another positive step in the ongoing collaboration between two of the world’s largest economies. The visit underscores Japan’s strong commitment to open dialogue and mutual understanding in trade policy, reflecting a shared goal of building a more balanced and resilient global trade environment.

During his visit, Akazawa is set to meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. These discussions will build on progress made in earlier sessions and focus on practical solutions that benefit both economies, particularly in the context of evolving global trade dynamics.

Although the U.S. Treasury Secretary will not be present at the third round of talks occurring this weekend in Tokyo, Akazawa’s planned follow-up visit highlights the importance both countries place on continuity and cooperation in shaping fair and future-ready trade frameworks.

As Japan and the U.S. continue to align on key trade policies, this engagement sets a positive tone for future partnerships and paves the way for stronger supply chains, increased market access, and long-term economic stability.
