Indonesia has reached a new milestone in international trade with the successful export of 1,200 metric tons of welded beam steel, valued at $1.5 million, to New Zealand. This achievement underscores Indonesia’s growing prominence in global markets, facilitated by the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA).
The agreement, which allows for 0% import duty on steel products, has been pivotal in enabling Indonesian steel to thrive in competitive markets like New Zealand. Trade Minister Budi Santoso praised the partnership during a send-off ceremony in West Java, highlighting how it fosters seamless trade and opens opportunities for Indonesian industries.
“New Zealand’s dynamic infrastructure projects, including the construction of bridges and airports, present an incredible opportunity for Indonesia to contribute to global development through high-quality steel exports,” Minister Santoso remarked.
To ensure Indonesia maximizes these opportunities, he encouraged local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to focus on enhancing product quality, making them even more competitive in the international market.
The Ministry of Trade is optimistic about achieving its 2025 export target of $294.45 billion, reflecting a 7.1% growth from the previous year. This steel shipment is a testament to Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its trade partnerships and boosting economic growth through robust export strategies.
