Feliciano Alvarez – Member of the Business Council for Artificial Intelligence

 

Feliciano Alvarez is the Chief Audit Executive at Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation, where he has been instrumental in driving excellence in internal auditing, risk management, and corporate planning since 2013. With a career that began in external auditing with Ernst & Young, Feliciano transitioned into internal auditing in the mining industry, focusing on ensuring compliance with industry regulations and identifying cost-saving opportunities. His passion for leveraging data to enhance audit processes led him to further his education in data science at MIT, where he is currently expanding his expertise in artificial intelligence and business analytics.

 

Feliciano holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Ateneo Graduate School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). His professional journey is marked by significant achievements, including leading internal audit and risk management projects that have enhanced governance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness at Atlas Mining. Notable accomplishments include implementing a GRC reporting system and driving system business improvements.

 

The mining industry has evolved rapidly since Feliciano began his career, with increased automation and digitalization becoming central trends. He identifies key challenges such as regulatory compliance, environmental concerns, and economic uncertainties, while anticipating a future with more focus on sustainable mining practices and innovations in AI and data analytics.

 

Feliciano is particularly excited about the integration of AI, spatial data visualization, and geographic information systems (GIS), which promise to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability in mining. His advice to newcomers in the industry is to stay curious, continuously learn, and build a strong foundation in both technical skills and industry knowledge, emphasizing the value of networking and mentorship.

 

Outside of his professional endeavors, Feliciano enjoys reading about advancements in AI and data science, exploring new technologies, and engaging in outdoor activities like hiking and photography. His diverse interests and ongoing commitment to learning reflect his dedication to staying at the forefront of industry developments.
