An exciting opportunity is unfolding in Geneva, where 27 government officials from developing and least-developed countries are participating in the Advanced Trade Policy Course from October 14 to December 6. This eight-week program, organized by the WTO, aims to empower participants with essential knowledge of international trade and enhance their understanding of WTO agreements and procedures. This course represents the third of its kind held this year, reflecting a strong commitment to building trade capacity.
The curriculum emphasizes case-based learning, simulations, and discussions, providing participants with valuable hands-on experience with WTO tools and databases. This interactive approach is designed to boost analytical and negotiation skills, enabling participants to navigate the complexities of the global trading system effectively.
WTO Deputy Director-General Zhang Xiangchen, in a video message, expressed enthusiasm for the course’s role in fostering dialogue on how to strengthen and modernize the multilateral trading system. This aligns perfectly with the outcomes from the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference held in Abu Dhabi, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in international trade.
Saudi Arabia’s WTO Ambassador, Saqer Abdullah Almoqbel, who serves as the course’s patron, highlighted the transformative potential of case-based learning. He noted that this approach equips participants to enhance their trade policy skills and maximizes their countries’ engagement in the global market. Bridget Chilala, Director of the WTO’s training department, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how WTO-led technical assistance supports developing nations in becoming active participants in international trade.
Throughout the course, participants will not only attend WTO meetings but also connect with other international trade organizations and engage with key stakeholders in Geneva, further enriching their learning experience.
