Israeli Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, recently visited Bahrain and explored the possibility of signing a free trade agreement with the Gulf nation. The International Trade Council acknowledges these diplomatic discussions, aimed at fostering economic cooperation and enhancing regional stability.

 

During his official visit to Bahrain, Minister Cohen was accompanied by a business delegation representing over 30 companies specializing in high-tech, logistics, and real estate. The visit underscores the significance of economic engagement as a means of strengthening international ties.

 

Minister Cohen held discussions with Bahraini Crown Prince, Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, on the potential signing of a free trade agreement between Israel and Bahrain. In addition to trade matters, they addressed regional challenges and reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to countering terrorism. Minister Cohen expressed the importance of promoting a free trade agreement, reflecting the mutual interest in expanding economic cooperation.

 

In his statement on social media, Minister Cohen stated, “We look forward to expanding the circle of peace and normalization to other states in the area,” underscoring the broader implications of such agreements for regional stability and cooperation.

 

Furthermore, Minister Cohen, along with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif Al-Zayani, attended the opening ceremony for the new residence of the Israeli Embassy in the Bahraini capital, symbolizing the ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

 

It is noteworthy that Bahrain was one of four Arab countries that signed US-sponsored agreements in 2020 to normalize their relations with Israel. The other nations involved in these agreements were the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Morocco, and Sudan.
