Indonesia’s Trade Ministry, under the leadership of Minister Zulkifli Hasan, has teamed up with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) to launch a collaborative task force aimed at resolving discrepancies in import data. This joint effort comes in response to concerns over discrepancies between data reported by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and exporting countries.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Minister Hasan stressed the importance of cooperation in addressing these discrepancies. He pointed out significant differences between import figures recorded by BPS and those reported by exporting nations, highlighting the task force’s role in investigating and reconciling these discrepancies.

“Our goal is to find effective solutions. The Trade Ministry, together with Kadin and other stakeholders, is fully committed to resolving this issue,” Minister Hasan stated.

Pending finalization of plans, the task force will also conduct inspections to prevent the infiltration of illicit imports into the domestic market.

Kadin Chairman Arsjad Rasjid voiced his support for this collaborative effort, emphasizing its significance in resolving data inconsistencies across various sectors.

“This partnership represents a proactive approach to aligning and clarifying import data discrepancies. It’s essential for government and businesses to collaborate towards viable solutions,” Rasjid affirmed.

The Trade Ministry is preparing to issue a decree outlining the task force’s mandate once the formulation process is complete.
